The Express Entry system is an online system that the Government of Canada uses to manage permanent residence applications for skilled workers.
Express Entry aims to select the best candidates for each of the following three economic immigration programs:

Express Entry is a recruitment pool of candidates for the provinces and territories of Canada under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Express Entry is a point system, based on specific characteristics of applicants such as age, work experience, education, etc.

The candidate must go through certain steps in the system, before receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Provincial Nominee Program is intended for workers who:

Have the skills, training and experience required to contribute to the economic development of a particular province or territory;

Want to reside in this province;

Want to become a permanent resident of Canada.
Each province and territory has its own immigration programs that target specific groups such as business people, students, skilled workers or semi-skilled workers.
Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP)
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program is a specific program that operates in the Atlantic Canadian provinces (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.) This program has 3 components:

The AIPP was put in place in 2017, to help employers in Atlantic Canada hire foreign skilled workers who would like to live in one of these provinces, as well as international students wishing to stay in Atlantic Canada after the graduation.
The AIPP immigration process begins with obtaining the employer designation.
Family reunification / Sponsorship
Sponsorship is an immigration program that allows Canadian citizens, permanent residents or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Indian Act, to bring in their loved ones as permanent residents. The different forms of sponsorship that exist are:
Sponsorship for a spouse, common-law partner or dependent child
Sponsorship for parents and grandparents
Sponsorship of other family members
Sponsorship of adopted children
Family reunification / Sponsorship Quebec
For a sponsorship, there must be a guarantor or sponsor and a person to sponsor. The guarantor and the sponsored person have responsibilities and obligations towards each other, and towards the government of Quebec. The duration of the signed undertaking varies according to the family link between the guarantor and the sponsored person.
